Journaling is a new rapid automation tool that records, edits, and replays interactive NX sessions. Based on the Visual Basic language, it lets you easily enhance journals by manually editing them with simple programming constructs and user interface components.

This capability is an easy to use tool that is upward-compatible with future NX releases and accommodates changes to underlying applications across releases. For I-deas users, this capability provides a similar but more robust alternative to I-deas program files.

Journaling coverage is being implemented in stages, on a per-application basis. Complete coverage will not be available for several release cycles. Therefore, replay may potentially give incorrect results. Eventually, you will be able to journal 100% of the NX application functionality. In recorded journals, the system provides clear indications of what functionality was not journaled.

Creating Journals - You can automatically create journals by recording an interactive NX session, or manually create them using any text editor. Automatically created journals produce the same model data and history tree with playback as was originally created during record, assuming the same start state.

You can also create journals that output C++ instead of Visual Basic. Although they don't replay, you can use this feature as a way to create the beginning of a C++ automation application.

Windows Forms - Using WinForms, you can provide your journal users with interactive GUI support from simple user prompts to full blown dialogs.

Execution Modes - You can execute a journal as a single mode or a batch mode process.
